Judge Michael A. Cicconetti

Judge Mike Cicconetti has been Judge of the Painesville Municipal Court since January, 1994, and is currently in his third six-year term of office. Judge Cicconetti is a summa cum laude graduate of St. Leo College, Florida, and received his law degree from Cleveland State University in 1980.

Judge Cicconetti was in private practice for 13 years prior to the Bench and served as a member of the Painesville Township Board of Education for 4 years and as an elected Painesville Township Trustee for 14 years prior to his election as Judge.

Judge Cicconetti served as President of the American Judges Association, an organization of 2,500 Judges from the United States and Canada, from 2005-06. He is also active in numerous community activities, including the Ohio Municipal and County Judges Association, the Northern Ohio Judges Association, serving as president in 1998, and Coalition of Justice Associations.

Judge Cicconetti is the recipient of the American Judges Association’s Chief Justice Richard W. Holmes Award of Merit presented at the association’s annual conference in Vancouver. This award is presented “to a judge for outstanding contributions to the judiciary.” Previous recipients include Chief Justice Warren Burger, Justice Sandra Day O‘Connor, V. Robert Payant, former dean of the National Judicial College, Roger Warren, President Emeritus of the National Center for State Courts, and Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye of the New York Court of Appeals.

Innovative and creative sentencing has brought Judge Cicconetti national and international attention. His sentencing practices have been the subject of articles in national and international news media publications and articles in nearly every major newspaper worldwide, all local and national news programs including the Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS Morning Show, Fox News, Dr. Phil, Paula Zahn and Court TV.

Judge Cicconetti is the proud father of five children and resides in Concord Township.
